Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.

The Bainbridge Island Park District will purchase 10 acres near the head of Blakely Harbor to provide much needed public saltwater access and recreational opportunities

Location Details

From the ferry terminal at Winslow: Turn left at the first light (Winslow Way) to the first stop sign(Madison). Make a right turn onto Madison and go to the first stop sign(Wyatt Way), make a left turn and follow the signs to Blakely Ave continue passed Old Mill Rd into Bucklin Hill Road. Continue through the "Y" in the road, to go south on Blakely Ave. Once on Blakely Ave. continue passed Old Mill Rd and Blakely elementary school as the road turns east to become Blakely AveNE. Continue on this road until 3-T Road. Make a right turn onto 3-T Road (at this juncture the harbor is in sight) continue to the road end and park along the road shoulder in proximity to the tiled interpretative habitat sign. The project site follows the shoreline around the head of the Blakely harbor from here. There is a path down to the water from the interpretative sign.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
