12 Months of WWRP-Trails

January 26, 2024

Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.

This month’s featured project is Pipeline Trail Phase 1 located on the ancestral land of the Puyallup, Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla people. Pierce County Parks is using this grant to construct 1.6 miles of paved, multi-modal trail from the intersection of 72nd Street E and Waller Road E to Orangegate Park. Piece County Parks will also develop trailhead facilities at Orangegate Park, which has also received a WWRP Local Parks grant in 2023. The completed Pipeline Trail vision will link downtown Tacoma to Puyallup’s South Hill. The primary recreational opportunity supported by this project is multi-modal nonmotorized trail use. The projected completion date for the Pipeline Trails is December 2024 and Orangegate Park to be completed in 2025.
