Category Overview
The State Lands Development and Renovation category provides funding to two state agencies to repair, renovate, and develop outdoor recreation facilities on existing recreation lands. As the popularity of outdoor recreation increases in our state, these grants help address overcrowding, ensure our outdoor amenities are safe for public use, improve visitor experience, and allow more people to enjoy our great outdoors.
Project Highlights
The Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to improve the current facility and infrastructure of the Oak Creek Wildlife Area elk viewing location, located southwest of Naches in Yakima County. This project will construct facilities at the Oak Creek Visitors Center. Development will include upgrading a 200 foot stretch of existing elk fencing to durable cyclone fencing, adding an additional tour truck loading ramp and ensuring both loading ramps are ADA compliant. Additionally, 2 outdated and faulty vault toilets will be replaced, 1 additional toilet will be permanently removed and the existing gravel entrance and parking area will be paved and at least 2 ADA compliant parking spaces will be added. The primary recreation opportunity provided by this project is wildlife viewing.
