Category Overview
Conserving land along our waterways protects important habitat and helps keep our rivers healthy, clean, and more resilient to drought. Riparian Protection projects conserve and restore fresh and saltwater habitat while protecting fish habitat. In doing so, the grants help provide our families, farms, and fisheries with clean water across the state.
Project Highlights
The Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to acquire 247 acres of stream bank, wetlands, floodplain, and associated forest and pastureland at three sites in the Chehalis River watershed in Grays Harbor County. The acquisitions protect habitat benefiting varied bird, fish, and mammal species and support hunting and fishing recreation. The primary conservation benefit provided by this project is protection of riparian and floodplain habitat connecting to publicly owned and forested uplands.
