Conserving land along our waterways protects important habitat and helps keep our rivers healthy, clean, and more resilient to drought. Riparian Protection projects conserve and restore fresh and saltwater habitat while protecting fish habitat. In doing so, the grants help provide our families, farms, and fisheries with clean water across the state.

Project Highlights

In Fall 2023, Forterra completed all Due Diligence on the Woods Lake Property and finished the review appraisal, confirming $720,000 as appraised value. The appraised value was $20,000 above expected value. Snohomish County Conservation Futures was used to cover the gap. The Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment noted no known environmental concerns. Property was acquired in January 2024. A Snohomish County Conservation Futures conservation easement was recorded on property in January 2024. Cultural resources study was completed. A yurt and an abandoned car were removed from the property. The property was transferred to the Tulalip Tribes in November 2024 with a Snohomish County Conservation Futures conservation easement amendment.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
