Category Overview
The State Lands Development and Renovation category provides funding to two state agencies to repair, renovate, and develop outdoor recreation facilities on existing recreation lands. As the popularity of outdoor recreation increases in our state, these grants help address overcrowding, ensure our outdoor amenities are safe for public use, improve visitor experience, and allow more people to enjoy our great outdoors.
Project Highlights
The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to redevelop the Mattoon Lake Water Access Site located on Mattoon Lake within the City of Ellensburg in 2 phases. this proposal is for phase 1 work. Located adjacent to Interstate 90 in Kittitas County and within the Ellensburg City limits this site is easy to get to and very popular to the local community. The existing infrastructure needs to be redeveloped to support the high level of use and to provide for a better user experience. Currently the site consists of a parking lot, 2 vault toilets, a fishing dock and a boat launch. The fishing dock is currently failing and will need to be removed soon, if it is not replaced. The new site would provide for ADA access to a CXT Toilet, ADA parking and an larger and ADA accessible fishing float. The entrance sign will be replaced and the parking area will be upgraded and delineated with barrier rock to reduce impacts to adjacent habitat. Redeveloping this popular, easy to get to, and highly visible site would be a great upgrade for Ellensburg and greater Kittitas County community. Phase 2 would extend the fishing dock, add additional fishing platforms around the lake, replace the other vault toilet and improve the existing user developed path around the lake.
