Hudson Cove Habitat Protection

Category Overview

Conserving land along our waterways protects important habitat and helps keep our rivers healthy, clean, and more resilient to drought. Riparian Protection projects conserve and restore fresh and saltwater habitat while protecting fish habitat. In doing so, the grants help provide our families, farms, and fisheries with clean water across the state.

Project Highlights

The Capitol Land Trust will use this grant to purchase a permanent conservation easement on about 228 acres of undeveloped forestland and shoreline on Steamboat Island Peninsula in Olympia. The property hosts 8,500 feet of shoreline on Totten Inlet, and also includes a 7.8-acre pocket estuary, and 4,745 feet of perennial and seasonal streams. The primary benefit of this project is habitat preservation.
