Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
Project Highlights
Ferry County used this grant to develop 3.04 miles of a former railroad grade into a non-motorized trail adjacent to the west side of Curlew Lake, approximately 7 miles NE of Republic. The project has expanded Ferry County’s current trail holdings and allows for varied types of non-motorized recreational use. The primary recreation opportunities provided by the project are biking, cross country skiing, and walking. Additional development also included upgrading kiosks at Black Beach and Kiwanis trailheads and signage and bollards at private road crossings.
