Deception Pass – Ben Ure Island (Acq)

Category Overview

State Parks grants help preserve and develop our state’s best outdoor recreation areas by funding new campgrounds and amenities to increase the capacity of our parks, creating new parks, improving park resources, and protecting historical areas. These grants help our state continue to develop our world-class parks system to share our cultural heritage and natural treasures with all of its visitors.

Project Highlights

Located at the mouth of Cornet Bay outside Deception Pass State Park, Ben Ure Island is a relatively undeveloped private island. Four of seventeen lots are available for purchase and permitted for development. This project will purchase the four lots, initiating a long term program of purchase and donations which will preserve the undeveloped character of this island and make it accessible to the public.
