Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
The City of Chehalis used this grant to renovate the Chehalis Community Pool, the project included the expansion and replacement of the pool building and pool liner, mechanical systems, guard stands, replacement of locker rooms to meet permitting requirements and ADA standards. This renovation improved shared park amenities including restroom facilities and has enhanced activities in the spray park, picnic area, sports, playground, and family gatherings. The primary recreation oportunity provided by this project is swimming. This project allowed the City of Chehalis to expand its capacity for swimmers of all ages and it is anticipated that these renovations will extend the useful life of this structure by more than 20 years.
