Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
Spokane County Parks, Recreation, and Golf department, in partnership with City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Department, used this grant to acquire and preserve 231 acres of Beacon Hill, connecting existing County and City parks to create a large contiguous urban regional park of 543.96 acres. Located in the heart of Spokane County and the City of Spokane, Beacon Hill has been at the epicenter of mountain biking in the region for decades as well as a popular recreational area for hiking, rock climbing, disc golf, dog-walking, trail running and more. The primary outdoor recreation opportunities provided through this grant are mountain biking and hiking.
