Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.
Project Highlights
Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District will use this funding to acquire 12.9 acres and develop about 12 acres of California Creek Estuary Park. The acquired parcel will add over 650 feet of freshwater shoreline along California Creek and another 230 feet of saltwater shoreline along Drayton Harbor. The development elements will include adding a restroom, kayak launch,picnic shelter, viewpoint with seating, parking, signage, road development, and circulation paths. The primary outdoor recreation opportunities provided by the project are passive recreation and access for non-motorized boating.
