Spokane River Centennial Trail Phase 1 Renovation

Category Overview

Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.

Project Highlights

Washington State Parks improved a total of 12 miles from the Idaho border west to the Islands Trailhead. An additional two-miles continuing west were completed using Capital Funding. The project provided an asphalt overlay including some full depth replacement in needed areas informed through the design process. The project also included lane striping and mile markers. The kiosks were determined to be salvageable and instead of full replacement they were repaired and fixed up to a like new condition. Bollards were repaired and improved to be more visible and consistent along the trail. Bike repair stations were not desired along this section of trail due to ease of vandalism that has occurred at other bike repair stations and were therefore not installed.
