Category Overview
Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
Pierce County Parks will use this grant to complete Project 2-B of the Sprinker Recreation Center Phase 2 outdoor sports field renovation. This project includes the development of two synthetic turf ball fields for youth competition and two multipurpose field overlay across the outfields, as well as dugouts, field netting, and scoreboards on each field. These improvements will broaden the complex use year-round for multiple user groups and sports. Our goal is to have a parallel Project 2-A occur concurrently and to have costs associated with site preparation, drainage and lighting split across the two scopes. The current grass fields are in poor condition, are improper dimensions to meet the need for sport fields for older ages and are unable to handle the increased year-round demand that can be achieved by converting to turf fields that are designed for multi-sport use. 2B will allow for the ‘northern’ multi-purpose field to be lined and equipped for play as this field crosses over between the 2A and 2B projects. We have included all incremental costs (on top of the turf) to equip this field within the 2B project. The 2B project is defined as a renovation of 2 grass ballfields into artificial turf and the development/installation of 2 new artificial turf multi-purpose fields using the same footprint. The northern multipurpose field will cross over onto turf installed in the 2A project. That project does not include or calculate the addition of that field.
