Veterans Memorial Park Revitalization

Category Overview

Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

The City of Mountlake Terrace will use this grant to support the final design and redevelopment of park amenities in the upper plateau of Veterans Memorial Park, located at 23400 58th Ave West. The project will renovate an existing playground, picnic shelter, pedestrian trail loop and install a new restroom facility and plaza space. These park features were selected for inclusion in the development of this project as a direct response to community and stakeholder feedback noted in the Veterans Memorial Park Master Plan (2021). The park site was acquired in 1960 as a play area and wildlife preserve and is situated in the heart of the redeveloping Town Center, adjacent to the new Sound Transit Lynnwood Link Light Rail Station. The dense forest and diverse woodland character of this park, with over 1,000 trees, make it an important asset to balance accessibility to natural green space and park amenities, while preserving wildlife habitat.
