Half Dollar Park Development

Category Overview

Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

Pierce County Parks will use this grant to develop the 3.5-acre Half Dollar Park, a neighborhood park in the South Hill Community. This phase of the Half Dollar Park project will develop parking, a restroom, benches, bicycle racks, and a plaza on the south side of the Tacoma Water Pipeline to be used for Half Dollar Park, and to serve as a future trailhead for the Pipeline Trail. The area north of the Tacoma Water Pipeline will be developed with a nature play area, Mt. Rainier picnic and viewing area, soft-surface bike skills course, and an interpretive loop trail. The primary recreational opportunities supported by this project are walking, biking, passive recreation, and trail access.
