Wards Lake Park Enhancements- Phase I

Category Overview

Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

The City of Lakewood will improve the critical wetland areas, install new play amenities to include an asphalted pump-track, develop an approximately 3-acre, fenced dog park, enhance upland forest and native oak-prairie habitat areas, create a 1-mile accessible loop trail through the park, enhance pedestrian safety improvements, and add more visibility and allow connectivity to the adjacent Water Flume line trail in Tacoma. The primary opportunities provided by this project include active and passive recreation and habitat conservation.
