Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Island County will use this grant to protect 150 acres of farmland inside Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve by acquiring conservation easements. The land, which has been actively farmed for more than a century, is a critical connection to more than 1,000 acres of farmland protected by conservation easements held by the National Park Service. Acquisition will enhance a large swath of both current and historical farmland, connecting Crockett Prairie to Ebey’s Prairie. The property is highly valued for expensive homes because of views, its location in the reserve adjacent to permanently protected lands and low supply of available property in the area.
