Category Overview
Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.
Project Highlights
The City of Chelan will used this grant to restore approximately 1500 feet of the swimming beach at Don Morse Park on Lake Chelan. Fill was imported to create a pea gravel beach that will be more stable and require minimal maintenance. The project will included construction of an accessible crushed rock path from the existing parking area to the water, and an accessible swim ramp leading into the water. The City also established a hand carry boat launch, and constructed two drift sills to provide erosion protection. Native shoreside plantings at the top of the sills provides habitat for fish and wildlife. The primary recreation opportunity provided by this project is swimming.
