Category Overview
Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
Project Highlights
The City of Spokane used this grant to renovate two trailheads/parks within Spokane’s Peaceful Valley neighborhood and to construct approximately one mile of a non-motorized trail along the Spokane River between the trailheads. Additional primary elements included the development of the Glover Park boat slide and portions of the Peaceful Valley Conservation Area between the proposed trailheads, which included the addition of picnic areas and natural landscaping. Connection to several short spur trails provides new access to the Spokane River. This trail segment links neighborhoods, parks, and other trail systems and created a new 3.5-mile loop with the Centennial Trail that can be accessed from downtown Spokane. The primary recreational opportunity created by this project was non-motorized trail access along the south shore of the Spokane River.
