Category Overview

Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.

Project Highlights

The City of Wenatchee will use this grant to build two trailheads and a 4.1-mile trail connecting them. The Horse Lake Trailhead will include parking, signs, benches, landscaping and a vault toilet. The Day Road Trailhead will include signage, an electronic gate, gravel and native vegetation. The Foothills Trail system provides access to recreation for 54,000 residents and millions of tourists that frequent the region.

Location Details

DAY DRIVE TRAILHEAD: In the City of Wenatchee, drive west on Fifth Street to Surrey Road and turn right. Proceed on Surrey to Day Road an turn left. This road climbs uphill. Turn left at Day Drive, and continue on this road to the end of the pavement. The Sage Hills trailhead is on the left. HORSE LAKE TRAILHEAD: In the City of Wenatchee, proceed north on Western Avenue, past Maiden Lane, until the pavement ends. Proceed on the gravel road, which eventually becomes Horse Lake Road for 4.2 miles. The trailhead facility will be adjacent to BLM lands, on the right.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
