Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
Project Highlights
Jefferson County will use this grant to acquire additional ROW and to design, permit, and construct approximately 3 miles of asphalt trail along the non-motorized, multi-use Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT). This trail segment will connect an existing trail head at the south end of the Larry Scott Trail to the boundary of Anderson Lake State Park. The trail will travel along South Discovery Road, past Jefferson Transit headquarters, and through Rayonier timber uplands. Construction of this segment will allow trail users to access the State Park from Port Townsend on 10 miles of trail, with only 1/3 mile of non-trail travel. The primary recreation opportunities provided by this project are non-motorized trail uses, including walking, running, bicycling, horseback riding, roller blading, bird watching, and forest wildlife observing for trail users of all abilities.
