Category Overview
Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
Project Highlights
This project will rebuild the Lake Easton Trestle which was destroyed when the Milwaukee Railroad abandoned the railway bed. To rebuild the trestle, five steel “spans” totaling 375 feet must bridge the Yakima River. Decking and railing must also be added to allow safe use by trail users. Rebuilding the trestle will totally eliminate a 2.5 mile detour on county roads and connect the trail from the east to Lake Easton State Park, which provides public access to the shoreline of Lake Easton.
