Category Overview
The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.
Project Highlights
This project thinned understory coniferous forest stands within the 1,197 acre Pogue Mountain Unit and the 4,311 acre Chesaw Unit of the Scotch Creek Wildlife Area Complex. By opening the forest stand structure, this project created valuable, improved tree vigor and provided variable densities and multiple secessional stages across the landscape. This project was part of a much larger effort designed to improve wildlife habitat and biodiversity, decrease the chances of an intense wildfire event, and provide greater recreational opportunities for the public.
