Category Overview
Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
Wilson Creek is central, and home to the K-12 school, of three small rural communities. There are currently no recreational facilities for older elementary, middle and high school age youth, other than a ballfield. Our goal is to build a skate park, which would provide a safe, fun and challenging recreational opportunity. Almost all youth already have either skateboards or in-line skates and use them in the streets. We would use town-owned lots, donations, grant funds, Columbia Basin Job Corps volunteers, and town labor and equipment to achieve our goal. We are trying to instill pride in our community and pride in self by making our community safer, healthier, more attractive, and more stimulating.
