Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.

Project Highlights

This 36-acre acquisition creates a significant new waterfront park near Gig Harbor and the west end of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The park has access to 1,100 feet of shoreline, including 650 feet of beach. The site offers a rare low bank waterfront facility on the west side of the Narrows. This project also received federal Land & Water Conservation funding.

Location Details

Tacoma Narrows, southwest side of Tacoma Narrows Bridge. From East: Go west on Highway 16 across the Narrows Bridge. Take the Wallochet/Pt. Fosdick exit, immediately after the bridge on the right. Follow Stone Drive to the right and under the bridge to Lucille Parkway (about 0.3 mile). Turn left on Lucille Parkway and proceed to doc's Drive (about 0.3 mile). Turn right and take Doc's Drive down to the parking area near the Narrows (1 mile).

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
