Soccer Field Lighting – Celebration Park

Category Overview

Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

Celebration Park is an 83 acre soccer and baseball sports complex located in Federal Way, the third largest city in King County. This park was purchased with the assistance of IAC funds in 1991. Tremendous community pressure and an extensive 6 year planning process has resulted in the development of the park. Before the City committed to constructing this much needed sports complex, many soccer leagues were scheduling fields in nearby cities, playing 2 games at a time on one field, compromising the quality and safety of play, and spreading tournaments over many different locations. It is Federal Way League policy to accommodate all players. This project will add lights to the complex of 4 soccer fields. This will increase capacity, improve the quality and safety of play and allow youth early evening play in the winter and adult play after dark throughout the year.
