The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

This project is for the acquisition of property along the shoreline of Commencement Bay and Foss Waterway in Tacoma for public access. This project is part of Tacoma’s work to establish public parks and access along Ruston Way. The path and parks are very popular, providing access for events such as fireworks displays on the Fourth of July.

Location Details

From I-5, take the I-705 (City Center Exit); then take the Schuster Parkway exit; from Schuster Parkway, proceed onto Ruston Way along Commencement Bay in Tacoma. The Dickman Mill Site is approximately 0.2 miles past the McCarver Street intersection and Old Town Dock. GIS coordinates identified for access points of property acquired along the corridor. Alder used for project midpoint. 42nd Street - GIS: 47 17' 14" and 122 29' 11" Alder Street - GIS: 47 16' 44" and 122 28' 37" (used as midpoint for Ruston Way corridor)

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
