SE Redmond Park Playground and Court Development

Category Overview

Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

The City of Redmond will use this grant to develop the 3.2-acre Southeast Redmond Park in the City of Redmond, in King County. This development project will transform a vacant field into a community park. The City will install playgrounds, a sports court and basketball court, pollinator and rain gardens, walking paths, seating, and picnic shelter and tables. The play structures will be for children aged 2-5 and 5-12 and include natural play elements and swings and accessible surface. The project will also create sunset hill, a graded hill with walking paths and seating for community gathering and sunset viewing. The project will also include lighting, fencing, site furnishings, and utilities. The overall goal is to transform the vacant, grassy field into a neighborhood hub of gathering, activity, and play by installing community-identified amenities. The primary outdoor recreation opportunities provided are active recreation, including playground play, pickleball, basketball, and walking, with some passive recreation, including picnicking, nature viewing, and relaxing outdoors.
