Ronald Bog Park: South Access Acquisition

Category Overview

Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.

Project Highlights

The City of Shoreline will use this grant to acquire a .25-acre parcel that borders the south side of Ronald Bog for future development of a park. In addition to the acquisition, proposed funding will support the demolition of existing structures including an existing single-family structure, including a mother-in-law unit, an in-ground cement pool, and a small storage shed. Requested funds will also cover relocation expenses for existing tenants in the mother-in-law unit, closing costs, an appraisal and appraisal review, and cultural resources survey. Acquiring this parcel from a willing seller will preserve the opportunity to expand recreation access along the south side of Ronald Bog, a wetland, and work toward achieving the City’s overall goal of increasing access to green space for the Shoreline community. Future development of Ronald Bog Park – South Access, which will include the proposed parcel and the adjacent parcel which the City purchased in 2023 with Park Impact Fees, will include the installation of a paved pathway, a dock/nature viewing deck, benches, a small play structure, and picnic tables, making the park accessible for all. The primary recreation opportunities provided by this project are water access, non-motorized boating, and wildlife viewing.
