Mount Si Trailhead Renovation

Category Overview

The State Lands Development and Renovation category provides funding to two state agencies to repair, renovate, and develop outdoor recreation facilities on existing recreation lands. As the popularity of outdoor recreation increases in our state, these grants help address overcrowding, ensure our outdoor amenities are safe for public use, improve visitor experience, and allow more people to enjoy our great outdoors.

Project Highlights

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will use this grant to renovate the Mt Si Trailhead located in the Mount Si Natural Resources Conservation Area, in east King County. Funding will be used to resurface the existing undefined gravel parking lot with asphalt paving, striping and wheel stops to define approximately 150 parking spaces, including 5 ADA spaces as well as an emergency parking space and a roadside trailhead direct shuttle stop. A new pedestrian circulation route will connect the shuttle stop to trailhead amenities. New bioretention areas will be constructed to clean and manage the stormwater. The existing vault toilet and access ramp will be reconstructed. The picnic areas will be renovated with new picnic tables and an area for in-person education. DNR will also work with tribes to develop a new interpretive display that will inform visitors of the importance of Mount Si, which is a sacred site. Restoration planting will utilize native plants that match the surrounding forest. The primary recreation opportunity provided by this project is safe sustainable access to non-motorized trails.
