The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
This project is for the development of a local park in the Lake City neighborhood which is one of the most densely populated areas, due to apartment zoning, with the least amount of open space of all Seattle neighborhoods. Lake City is an urban island isolated by major north-south and east-west four lane arterials and a county highway. Within those perimeters, there are no open spaces. Thus the popular community name this project has taken on: “The Last Open Space in Lake City.” The site is just shy of an acre and will provide all the amenities of a small community park including a children’s play area, picnic spaces, open space, paths and a water feature that draws from the nearby Thornton Creek that is currently undergrounded into a storm drain just before it enters this property.
