Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
Maritime Park is a passive park that celebrates the City and Navy’s 100 year symbiotic relationship and serves as the waterfront gateway through which ferry passengers arrive. It will feature a plaza with fountains, ponds, grand stairs, outdoor seating, sculptured rocks, and landscaping. The 386 linear feet of public shoreline it provides satisfies the number one request of the public — access to shorelines. Benches for viewing the water and ferry traffic are highly requested features Maritime Park will satisfy, along with providing a buffer to a high traffic concentration area for public transportation exchange (ferry and bus transfers). The park will house the Naval Museum at the north end.
