Rockaway Bluff Preserve Acquisition

Category Overview

Urban Wildlife Habitat projects fund close-to-home places to play and explore nature. As our urban areas are increasingly expanding and densifying, these grants protect important fish and wildlife habitat within five miles of densely populated areas, creating green refuges that help keep our ecosystems healthy and provide places to enjoy nature right in our backyards.

Project Highlights

Bainbridge Island Land Trust will use this grant to purchase five parcels totalling 45 acres to create Rockaway Bluff Preserve, a forest preserve above Rockaway Beach on Bainbridge Island in Kitsap County. The sponsor will also develop a stewardship plan, perform noxious weed control, add fencing, and install signage. The primary conservation opportunities are habitat protection, open space, and public access.
