Pioneer Park Field 3 Artificial Turf

Category Overview

Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

Pioneer Park is a 24-acre park located at 214 S. Tilden, just off of Highway 105. The park currently holds 3 Little League fields, 1 full size baseball field (home to Aberdeen high school and the Grays Harbor College), 1 skateboard park, 3 softball fields and 3 restroom buildings. To improve playability at our park, Aberdeen Parks and Rec will develop the softball (field 3) infield, from dirt to synthetic turf. We are hoping to make that switch due to Grays Harbor being one of the wettest counties in Washington. With turf, we improve reliability at one of our most diverse fields. Field 3 has a 300ft fence with base pegs that are suitable to hold any youth baseball/softball programs, up to adult softball; with adults being our main user of that field. With this added feature, we can keep local teams in the harbor, instead of teams leaving to play at other synthetic turf fields. Grant funds will be used to remove existing infield, installation of new foundation/fill; repairs to irrigation system, electrical, water, and sewer infrastructure; installation of new drainage; and installation of artificial turf infield.
