The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

Skagit County will use this grant to acquire approximately 85 acres to expand and reopen Big Rock Park. The project will allow for the future development of a trailhead and trail system at the park. The primary recreation opportunities that will be provided by this project are hiking and walking.

From I-5 take the College Way Exit #227. Continue east on East College Way (Highway #538) for 3.5 miles. Take the first right on the roundabout onto SR-9. Drive .5 miles on SR-9 before taking a right on Mount Vernon Big Lake Road. Travel .2 miles and the Park is to your right.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
