Category Overview
Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Washington Farmland Trust will use this grant to purchase agricultural conservation easements to permanently protect about 377 acres of prime farmland in the lower Chehalis River basin. The easements will extinguish an estimated 14 development rights on land managed for dairy use, including grass and livestock feed crops. The primary benefit of this project is the preservation of working farmland.
