Category Overview
The State Lands Development and Renovation category provides funding to two state agencies to repair, renovate, and develop outdoor recreation facilities on existing recreation lands. As the popularity of outdoor recreation increases in our state, these grants help address overcrowding, ensure our outdoor amenities are safe for public use, improve visitor experience, and allow more people to enjoy our great outdoors.
Project Highlights
WDFW will use this grant to increase the functionality and enjoyment of the Green Lake campground and water access area in Okanogan County. The project location lies only 15 minutes from Omak/Okanogan with a combined population of around 6,000 residents and is a popular destination for locals and visitors to the area; providing a variety of recreation options. Currently, there are only 4 designated camping areas on site with minimal amenities. This project would more than double those sites to 10-12 total and will feature better parking, level tent/camper locations and tall, round, steel fire rings that meet ADA standards. The designated camp locations will have curbed and gravels surfaces making identifying designated locations easy for users. In addition to camping improvements, access to Green Lake for fishing, swimming and general water access will be enhanced. Areas currently used to reach the water will be built sustainably to address erosion issues and re-engineered to make traversing to the shore from ones camp less steep and awkward. These improvements will include grading these 3 areas and adding ecology blocks (or equivalent) to protect the shore. An adjacent stepped or terraced approach to the shore around the leveled pads near the shore will be constructed. To put the final touches on this re-development, a new ADA-compliant CXT vault toilet will be installed in place of an existing aggregate facility and a new information kiosk will be erected.
