Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Skagit County used this grant to purchase one development right on 40 acres of farmland via an agricultural conservation easement. The Nelson-Estes farm is located in the Samish River basin near the base of the Chuckanut Mountains. Nelson-Estes Farm, is a part of one of the largest farming operations in the Skagit Valley. This farm includes pasture land as well as fields for corn, peas, potatoes and grains.
