Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Skagit County used this grant to acquire one development right via an agricultural conservation easement on 68.26 acres of farmland. This farm is located to the east of I-5 on the edge of the Mount Vernon City Urban Growth Area (UGA) on Britt Slough. The crops grown on this farm include potatoes, wheat, corn, peas, seed crops, nursery stock and pasture for beef stock.
