Category Overview
Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Skagit County used this grant to purchase one development right on 59.3 acres of farmland via an agricultural conservation easement. The Curtis Johnson farm is located in the Skagit Delta just east of the town of LaConner, WA. Crops grown on this land are rotated on an annual basis and have included potatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, wheat and both spinach and beet seed crops.
