Category Overview
Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.
Project Highlights
The Town of Winthrop will use this project to develop water access to the Methow River in Mack Lloyd Park. Due to the park’s central location in Town, an informal, unofficial launch area for fishing boats and paddle sports evolved without the Town’s approval. Lacking defined access, this undefined use has contributed to significant bank erosion. This project will facilitate structured access using a concrete plank ramp, restore native vegetation to the remaining stretch of exposed riverbank, install restrooms, improve an existing gravel parking area, and provide signage to guide proper use of the site. The primary recreational opportunity provided by this grant project is nonmotorized boating.
