Category Overview
Urban Wildlife Habitat projects fund close-to-home places to play and explore nature. As our urban areas are increasingly expanding and densifying, these grants protect important fish and wildlife habitat within five miles of densely populated areas, creating green refuges that help keep our ecosystems healthy and provide places to enjoy nature right in our backyards.
Project Highlights
The Jefferson Land Trust will use this grant to acquire and permanently preserve approximately 40 properties to add to the Quimper Wildlife Corridor (QWC), located in Port Townsend, Jefferson County. The QWC is a 3.5 mile greenbelt of native forest and series of palustrine wetlands stretching across the North Quimper Peninsula. Recreation and conservation opportunities supported by this grant are non-motorized trail use, environmental education activities, and habitat for multiple bird and wildlife species.
