Urban Wildlife Habitat projects fund close-to-home places to play and explore nature. As our urban areas are increasingly expanding and densifying, these grants protect important fish and wildlife habitat within five miles of densely populated areas, creating green refuges that help keep our ecosystems healthy and provide places to enjoy nature right in our backyards.

Project Highlights

This project acquired 338.75 acres on Antoine Peak, including the mountain summit, located outside of the cities of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake and Newman Lake. Spokane County has protected this land because of the critical nature of its habitat for wildlife, a million dollar viewshed, and to open up this premier “watchable wildlife” area to the nearly 1/2 million people of Spokane county.

Location Details

East on I-90 from Spokane to Exit 289, Pines Road. Turn Left (north) on Pines Rd (Hwy 27) to Trent Avenue. Turn Right (east) on Trent Ave (Hwy 290) to N. Evergreen Rd. Turn Left (north) on N Evergreen Road to E. Forker Road. Turn Right (east) on E. Forker Rd and continue on N Forker Rd. Pass E. Bigelow Gulch Rd on the left and continue to Brevier Road on right. Turn Right (east) on E. Brevier Road and follow to N. Robbins Road. Turn Right (south) on N. Robbins Rd and proceed 500' to top of hill. Gate to Antoine Peak Phase 3 is on the left.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
