Category Overview
Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
Project Highlights
The City of Castle Rock used this grant to create scenic viewpoints of the Cowlitz River on the Riverfront Trail and landscape the viewpoints with low-growing native species that will help retain the windows to the river and provide food sources for wildlife. In addition, the city completed enhancement work on a fish bearing creek by removing excessive small woody debris and vegetation and replanting the area with native plants to control erosion. Trail amenities including a bench, picnic table, bike rack, kiosk and signage were installed. The primary recreational experience provided by this project is walking, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing.
