Category Overview
Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
Project Highlights
The City of Tacoma used this grant to construct two segments of Class 1 ped/bike trail totalling approximately 1.3 miles of phase 2 of the Water Ditch Trail in South Tacoma. One segment extends from South 56th Street and South Clement Street to South 60th Street and South Clement Street, and the other from South 72nd Street and South Clement Street to 80th Street and South Tacoma Way. The City also provided trail amenities along two segments of the existing Water Ditch Trail (phase 1). One segment of the existing trail extends from South 47th Street and South Tacoma Way to South 56th Street and South Clement Street, and the other from South 60th Street and South Clement Street to South 72nd Street and South Cedar Street. The City installed benches, bollards, crosswalk striping, landscaping, pavement markings and signage along the existing paved 12 foot wide trail and at road crossings. The primary recreation opportunity provided by the project is non-motorized trail use.
