Project Highlights
The East Lake Sammamish Master Plan Trail project includes the design and construction of an an alternative, non-motorized transportation corridor and a multi-use recreational trail along 11 miles of the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad corridor, which runs the length of the east side of Lake Sammamish, connecting the cities of Redmond, Sammamish, and Issaquah. King County DNR and Parks used this grant to develop the Issaquah section, a 2.2-mile segment that extends northwest from NW Gilman Blvd in central Issaquah to Issaquah/Sammamish border of the East Lake Sammamish Trail. This project was part of Phase 2 of a multi-phase Master Plan Trail that would complete the entire 11-mile of trail corridor. Project elements included site preparation; grading; removing the existing gravel trail and constructing a 12 ft-wide asphalt trail with 2-ft-wide soft surface shoulders and 1-ft-wide clear zone on each side; constructing retaining walls and related earthwork; improving drainage; and installing landscaping, wetland mitigation, fencing, signage, trail amenity items, and traffic controls; signal equipment relocation; and replacing ramp to meet ADA requirements. The primary recreation opportunity provided by the project is for pedestrians and bicyclists. Substantial Completion was reached and the trail was open to general public on June 12, 2013.
