The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.
Project Highlights
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources used this grant to complete the final phase of restoration on 500 acres of near shore habitat within Woodard Bay Natural Resources Conservation Area, located in Henderson Inlet in southern Puget Sound. This final phase of the project restored 26 acres of habitat. Restoration included; restoring saltwater shoreline habitat, enhancing degraded and poorly buffered wetlands and riparian shorelines, rebuilding forested wetlands and riparian areas around a lake and enhancing environmental education and recreational opportunities at Woodard Bay.
