Category Overview
The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.
Project Highlights
The Department of Natural Resources used this grant to complete restoration and erosion control activities on prairie lands within the Admiralty Inlet NAP located within Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve, on Whidbey Island. Work focused on the continued restoration of the mesic prairie and the recovery of the Castilleja levisecta (golden paintbrush). Restoration activities included mowing, burning, invasive species control and plant and seed augmentation as well as other restoration as needed. Wildlife trees were created for raptor roosts. Short segments of trail in both the north and southeast corners of the project site were relocated to protect the restoration area.
