Oak Creek Wildlife Area Forest Restoration

Category Overview

The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.

Project Highlights

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to restore forest health in the Oak Creek Wildlife Area. Approximately 667 acres of forest thinning will occur, as well as approximately 593 acres of prescribed fire in the Tieton river watershed. Forest thinning will occur on lands south of the Tieton river, and consist of commercial and pre-commercial activities depending on stand condition and habitat objectives. Prescribed fire will occur in the Oak Creek drainage, and consist of broadcast burning in previously thinned areas. The primary habitat to be restored through this grant is forest habitat.
